The Moldy Fire (#279) remains the only active fire within the Roundabout Complex, now totaling 73,085 acres. Rain fell overnight and continues this morning. Firefighters have continued success with point protection measures, such as with Huslia’s microwave communications tower. No changes to evacuation levels and no firefighter injuries or accidents were reported.
Moldy Fire (#279) – Cooler temperatures and rain are assisting point protection efforts around 2 Alaska Native allotments. Two helicopters are now available to support fire operations, with the arrival of a Type 3 helicopter yesterday. Crews are focusing on mopping and securing lines around allotments, and field verifying suppression efforts. The fire team was welcomed into the community for the Tribal Council meeting. Tribal leaders expressed gratitude for both the fire support and the assistance with the community’s main water pump failure. An Alaska team arrives today and will shadow Northern New Mexico Type 3 team until they assume control of the complex on Thursday.
Caribou Fire (#128), Richards Fire (#251), Billy Hawk Fire (#182), and Billy Hawk 2 Fire (#191) – No changes reported. All four fires remain in monitor status with no new activity.

The Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service (AFS) located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, provides wildland fire suppression services for over 240 million acres of Department of the Interior and Native Corporation Lands in Alaska. In addition, AFS has other statewide responsibilities that include: interpretation of fire management policy; oversight of the BLM Alaska Aviation program; fuels management projects; and operating and maintaining advanced communication and computer systems such as the Alaska Lightning Detection System.
