The Mastadon Fire (#131) was declared 100% contained at 1:11 PM on Friday. With containment objectives achieved, the Pioneer Peak Hotshot Crew has been released from the incident and will begin refurbishing equipment before becoming available for Initial Attack and future fire assignments.

On Thursday evening, the Pioneer Peak Hotshot Crew and Mat-Su Type 2 Fire Crew worked late into the night, locating and extinguishing remaining hot spots, removing hazard trees, and completing gridding operations 100 feet into the black.

On Friday, crews are continuing gridding operations deeper into the fire interior, breaking apart heavy fuels and mitigating hazard trees as needed to ensure all remaining heat is identified and extinguished.

An infrared drone flight conducted at 9:30 AM on Friday detected one area of heat within the fire interior. Crews on scene were dispatched to locate and extinguish the remaining heat source.

A second infrared drone flight is scheduled for Saturday morning to help identify any additional heat and reduce the potential for re-ignition.
