DFFP responding to new fire 10.25 miles west of Parks Highway, Stampede Road

Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection is responding to a new fire along Fish Creek 10.25-miles west of Milepost 251 Parks Highway. Helitack launched from Fairbanks Area Forestry and discovered the Stampede Fire (#198) a 3-acre fire actively burning in tundra around 7:00 PM Tuesday. Helitack deployed its firefighters and started bucket operations. An Initial Attack Squad of five firefighters was ordered from Fairbanks to join helitack, Tri-Valley Valley Volunteer and Anderson fire departments. Residents along Stampede Road will notice helicopter operations and firefighting equipment along the road as firefighters work into the night. There are no structures threatened or need for evacuations. The fire is west of Eightmile Lake, 6.7–miles west of the intersection of Canopus Street and Stampede Road. 

There will be no other updates tonight. More information will be posted Wednesday.
