Firefighters continue to make steady progress on the Grandview Fire (#204), which was determined to have been caused by an escaped campfire.

Crews are working on completing dozer line around the fire perimeter and are continuing to strengthen containment lines by removing hazard trees, heavy fuels, and snags along the fire’s edge. Fire activity remained minimal throughout the day, with only a few isolated torching trees observed. Overall, fire behavior has moderated.

The Soldotna-based DFFP helicopter supported suppression efforts with bucket drops throughout the day. Firefighters and heavy equipment resources are working in coordination with Central Emergency Services and the Nikiski Fire Department, whose water tenders are supplying water for suppression efforts.

Resources assigned to the fire include the Gannett Glacier Type 2 Initial Attack Crew, Pioneer Peak Hotshot Crew, three DFFP engines, two dozers, one excavator, and water tenders from cooperating agencies and one private contractor.

Firefighters will continue working into the evening to strengthen containment lines along the perimeter of the fire.
