A DFFP helicopter was sent to investigate heat signatures from infrared satellite imagery around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. The helicopter located the 5-10 acre Vanderpool Fire (#256) burning in tundra and black spruce, approximately 9 miles east of McGrath.

The helicopter on scene engaged in bucket work, and retardant tankers were ordered because of private property in the area. The fire is now estimated to be 8-10 acres, with the southern flank most active.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
