Anderson evac downgraded to ‘Set’

Firefighters are making progress toward containment on the Starry Fire (#234) and ‘Go’ evacuations have been lifted as firefighters wrapped the fire with hose and light precipitation fell in the area yesterday.

The Denali Borough has lifted their ‘Go.’ evacuation status for Anderson effective this morning, moving it down to ‘Set,’ as fire remains on the landscape and risk remains.

The operational plan today is to continue to hold the line and search outside the northern perimeter of the fire for any potential escaped heat.

On the east and south of the fire, The Midnight Suns and Fairbanks 1 Crew are spraying and securing 10 feet in, with the Suns focusing on cutting out pockets of heat. A firefighting contingent from Elmendorf Air Force Base is securing two areas of the fire: a 2-acre spot on the southeast corner of the fire and a slop-over on the south side.

The Yukon Type 2 IA Crew arrived today and are working with the Pioneer Peak Hotshots to green-grid and secure 5 feet in on the north and west side of the fire.

Two federal contract crews, Moose Heart and Clearwater are expected to arrive today to help further contain the fire.
