2:40 PM: Once on scene, firefighters discovered three escaped debris piles with a camp and structures nearby. The fire is contained and controlled. Firefighters remain on scene to continue mopping up and ensure all hot spots are extinguished.
Burn permits are required in Alaska from April 1 – August 31 for brush piles of organic material, burn barrels, and burning a maintained lawn of less than 1 acre. Safe burning practices and more information on the Alaska Burn Permit Program is available at https://dnr.alaska.gov/burn/.
This will be the final update on the Flat Lake Fire (#330) unless significant activity occurs.
1:30 PM: An engine and firefighters from the Division of Forestry & Fire Protection’s Mat-Su Area are responding to the Flat Lake Fire (#330). A caller reported a fire on an island in Flat Lake, with two-foot flame lengths and structures nearby. The engine crew responding will be shuttled by boat to the fire. The fire is currently reported as .1 acre, creeping and smoldering.
