The Konedsin Minnkohwin Fire (#404) remains at 160 acres and is now 35% contained. Firefighters continue strengthening containment lines on both flanks of the fire while mopping up pockets of heat remaining in deep peat soils. The fire remains within its established footprint, burning in caribou lichen, tundra, mixed spruce, hardwood and peat along lake berms.
Cool, wet weather continues to moderate fire behavior and support suppression efforts. The fire received approximately 0.40 inches of rain, with a high temperature of 63 degrees, relative humidity reaching 53%, and southwest winds of 6-9 mph with gusts up to 15 mph. Firefighters found only isolated smoldering in peat soils on Sunday. Today they reported no significant overnight growth.
Thirty-three personnel remain assigned to the incident. Firefighters will continue reinforcing containment lines and mopping up remaining hotspots while minimizing impacts to protected caribou habitat and other sensitive resources.
The fire is approximately 40 miles west of the Dalton Highway and 21 miles east of the community of Allakaket.
