
Callers reported a new fire at approximately 6:00 p.m. The Shovel Fire (#451) is located near Mile 46.5 of the Chatanika River. The fire spread from a burning structure into the surrounding wildlands and is estimated at one quarter acre. The area is surrounded by hardwoods.
Two smokejumpers are on scene and will work to contain the fire, then monitor it through the night. Additional resources are en route.
