• Crews advancing fireline on the Ninetyeight Fire

  Today will be the last written update for the Ninetyeight Fire (#218) which remained in a creeping and smoldering pattern with some single tree torching. Yesterday crews continued progression of the fireline along the south and southwest corner. Completion of objectives (keep fire north of Salcha river) remains at 54% and acreage at 15,677.

• Incursions complicate aerial operations as crews continue to target hot spots on Himalaya Road group fires

  Fire activity was minimal within the Himalaya Road Fire (#223), Aggie Creek Fire (#268) and Obrien Fire (#172), with hot spots popping up on the west side of Aggie Creek. More hot spots and smoke columns are expected tomorrow with another warm, dry day. There were two incursions into the Temporary Flight Restriction over these fires yesterday, which poses serious risks to firefighter and public safety.

• Rainy weather expected for the Goldrun Complex

  Rain is expected to spread across the Kobuk Valley where the nine fires of the Goldrun Complex continue to smolder and show little fire activity. While rain is anticipated, crews continue to provide protection for Alaska Native allotments, structures and values at risk.

• Tlozhavun Fire 70% contained

  The Tlozhavun Fire (#448), located 10 miles south of Fort Yukon, remains at 21 acres, is now 70% contained, and crews have completed 50-foot mop up operations while advancing toward a 100-foot mop up depth under continued full suppression.

• “Ready” evacuation level lifted for Central area

  The current Type 3 incident management team assigned to the Ptarmigan Complex is transitioning at Type 4 organization with the transfer of command set to take place Sunday at 7 a.m. Firefighters and aviation resources will continue their work on the fires.

• Firefighters make progress securing allotments on the Roundabout Complex

  Flagstaff Hotshots improved the fireline on the north side of the Moldy Fire (#279) and worked to slow fire movement threatening allotments and values to the north and east. Helitack helped to secure the northern edge and identified hose and other equipment for backhaul. The Midnight Sun Hotshot Crew made good progress protecting allotments on the south and east edges.
