Transfer of command to the Alaska Type 1 Team – 100 Mile Creek Fire

June 11, 2014 10:00 AM

There is a community meeting tonight at 6 PM at the Delta Community Center. The Alaska Type 1 Incident Management Team will be presenting current fire information about the 100 Mile Creek Fire.

The 100 Mile Creek Fire is located 20 miles southwest of Big Delta, Alaska.  The area of the fire is currently estimated at 21,155 acres with 5% of the perimeter contained.

Cloud cover and cooler weather has helped to moderate fire behavior. Fire managers plan to take advantage of the favorable weather to try to hold the fire by preventing movement to the north and east. Crews will continue to assess and protect structures, and will begin building direct line.

The Alaska Type 1 Incident Management Team assumed command of the 100 Mile Creek fire at 7 AM today (June 11, 2014). Currently there are around 291 fire personnel working on this incident. The Incident Command Post (ICP) for the 100 Mile Creek fire has been established at the Delta Fairgrounds. Local residents are welcome to call or visit the fire information office at the ICP.

Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place over the fire and commercial and private pilots should check Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) for more information. Firefighting airplanes and helicopters are operating over the fire, and pilots are advised to use extreme caution in the airspace surrounding the incident.  A TFR map is located http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_4_6008.html
