Yesterday: Crews made good progress with hazard tree mitigation near structures along the Elliot Highway. Hose, pumps, and sprinklers were back hauled. Fire-line in the New York Creek area was secured with bucket work and ground personnel. Fire growth was minimal despite direct southeast winds and warmer temperatures. A suppression repair plan was developed. Due to better mapping, the acres burned decreased by 38 acres.
Today: Cloudy, cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and precipitation are forecasted. Crews will continue to secure fire-line around structures in the Eureka area and back haul as structure protection operations shift to monitoring status. Blackened tree mitigation along the Elliot Highway will continue and suppression repair plans will begin where feasible.
Hay Slough Fire
Yesterday: New fire growth occurred in sheltered areas of mixed hardwood. Creeping and smoldering was observed. Fire perimeter grew 5201 acres. Structure protection assessments were completed and structure preparations begun. Risk assessment of native allotments was conducted.
Today: Crews will continue risk assessments and preparations of values at risk. Mining operations and structures to the east of Fish Lake are threatened. Structures along the Tanana river will be assessed and management action plans developed. Cloudy, higher
