A public meeting to discuss the current status of the Ruby Area Fires will be held on Tuesday, July 21st at 7:00pm at the Community Hall in Ruby.

As predicted, rain fell over most of the fire area Friday and into Friday night. The fire perimeters are still active, despite the rain. Fire intensity is currently reduced, giving firefighters the opportunity to use direct suppression tactics on sections of the fires. In areas were it is safe to do so, crews will work to cool down and extinguish the fire, sometimes needing to reach areas of smoldering fire deep in the thick tundra. More rain is predicted over the next several days.

Bruno Creek Fire: With structure protection completed immediately around the Bruno Creek Fire, firefighters will begin to look for opportunities to protect native allotments that are in and near the fire. Crews completed a fuel break on the northwest corner of the fire.

Big Creek Two Fire: Two squads were placed into the Nowitna River drainage to set up sprinkler systems and complete structure protection on remote cabins on the east side of the fire.

Trail Creek Fire: A contingency fireline was constructed in the Glen Gulch area. Structure assessment will continue. Today structures west of the fire will continue to be assessed.

There is a Notice to Airmen in effect for a 25-mile radius around the village of Ruby.
