Pacific Northwest Team 2 Public Information Officers Kale Casey and Carly Reed explain the recent Level 2 “Set” and Level 1 “Ready” evacuation notices for the upper Goldstream Valley residences.

This weekend’s warm and dry weather forecasted for the Shovel Creek Fire area is expected to contribute to active fire behavior. Firefighters are preparing for a firing operation on Friday to prevent the wildfire from moving south.

Pacific Northwest Team 2, managing the fire, has recommended to Fairbanks North Star Borough Emergency Management to issue a LEVEL 1 (READY) evacuation alert in the following neighborhoods:

* Drouin (41 structures)
* Hardluck (104 structures)
* Moose Mountain (440 structures)
* Coyote Jones (26 structures)
* Hattie Creek (26 structures)

A Level 1 (Ready) Evacuation alert is not a notice to leave, but it means that you must be ready for potential evacuation. There is a fire in your local area. Prepare for family members with special needs, mobile property (boats, trailers, ATV), and pets or livestock. Monitor social media, news and radio for information, and also call the fire information number listed above. Emergency personnel may contact you via an emergency notification system.
