A hotshot crew is nearing full containment of the 6-acre George Lake Fire (#225) located approximately 40 miles southeast of Delta Junction.
The fire was reported to be 85 percent contained as of Tuesday morning and the 20-person Baker River Hotshot Crew working on the fire declared the fire fully controlled at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. The crew will be patrolling and monitoring the fire for the next 24 hours before declaring the fire fully contained.
The lightning-caused fire was reported June 17 less than 1 mile from George Lake, which has several recreational cabins located around it. The fire received light precipitation on Monday and fire behavior was described as smoldering.
Assuming no new hot spots are found over the next 24 hours, the Baker River Hotshots will be demobilized tomorrow afternoon.
