
The firefighter was traveling alone to the fire at the end of Chena Hot Springs Road at around 5:20 p.m. in a state forestry truck when the vehicle went off the road near Mile 39 and rolled multiple times. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and sustained extensive injuries.
Medics at the nearby Munson Creek Fire burning just south of Chena Hot Springs at Mile 56.5 responded to the accident. A Fairbanks Area Forestry helicopter transported the driver to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and he was medevaced to Providence Medical Center in Anchorage later that evening.
The firefighter was listed in serious but stable condition on Sunday and Alaska State Troopers are investigating the accident.
