Moderate fire activity is expected on the Camp Creek and Donut Fires todaydue to dry, windy conditions. As temperatures increased over the past couple of days and humidity decreased, much of the vegetation has dried out leaving it susceptible to wind-driven runs.
The Poorman Complex continues to support the BLM Alaska Fire Service Galena Zone that covers Western Alaska for initial response on the nearby Hot Springs Creek Fire (#463). The fire is located about 36 miles northeast of Ruby. The Lassen Hotshot crew is conducting structure preparation in the area.
- Camp Creek Fire (#352): Current estimated acreage is 49,138. The fire was very active yesterday and had multiple wind driven runs, including one run that pushed the fire about 6 miles in 24 hours. The fire continues growing to the east and southeast. It is approximately 5 miles north of Poorman Road. Baker River Hotshots continue structure preparation around multiple cabins in the Poorman Road area.
- Donut Fire (#335): Current estimated acreage is 49,100. The fire had moderate activity and growth yesterday. It grew northeast into an area burned in 2015. There tends to be less vegetation which can decrease fire intensity and slow down the fire’s growth within these previously burned areas.
- Sunset Fire (#369): Current estimated acreage remains at 3,002. This fire is still in monitor status with minimal fire activity expected. The fire ran into natural barriers with a bog on the east side, a creek along the west side, and the Yukon River to the south.
