The Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team assumed command of the Obrien Fire (#172) this morning. The fire is burning north of the Himalaya Road Fire (#223) on Bureau of Land Management land. Firefighters are evaluating the fire and implementing point protection for cabins in the area. The Aggie Creek Fire (#268) and the Himalaya Road Fire both increased in size over the weekend.

Numbers:
Aggie Creek Fire (#268): 38,270 acres, 0% contained
Himalaya Road Fire (#223): 5,872 acres, 0% contained
Obrien Fire (#172): 3,093 acres, 0% contained
Operations: Firefighters continue to work on the ground, in the air and by water to further assess and control the fires. Ground crews on the Aggie Creek Fire are installing a system of pumps, tanks and sprinklers to protect structures on Himalaya Road to the southeast. A crew transported by boat will determine how close the fire is to homes along the Chatanika River. Dozers and firefighters are working a spot fire that crossed the Alaska Pipeline and continue to mop up and douse the backburn they completed south of the pipeline. Firefighters are working to contain a 17-acre spot fire that reared up outside the west perimeter of the Himalaya Road Fire yesterday.
Aircraft will continue to support fire suppression efforts on the ground as needed.

Smoke: For smoke outlook updates go to outlooks.airfire.org.
Closures: No road closures reported at this time for these three fires. Check 511.alaska.gov for road conditions. Olnes Pond, the Whitefish Campground and the Western White Mountains NRA are closed due to fire activity.
Evacuations: Level 1 “READY,” and Level 2 “SET,” evacuations are in effect for these fires. SET means be ready to evacuate on a moment’s notice. Visit https://bit.ly/FNSBevac for current evacuation levels. Safety: Drivers must use extreme caution on Elliott Highway. Do not stop, be alert and watch out for firefighters and heavy equipment working the area. Smoke may limit visibility at times. A Temporary Flight Restriction is in place. Do not fly drones over the fire area; if you fly, we can’t. Unauthorized drone use poses serious risks to firefighter and public safety
