Mat-Su- The 14-person Mat-Su Type 2 Fire Crew and 3-person Helitack crew worked late into the night Thursday to strengthen containment efforts on the Yentna Fire (#104). Firefighters made steady progress by cutting saw line, laying hose around the fire perimeter, and cooling hotspots, bringing the fire to 60% containment by the end of the night.

There was no overnight growth, and the fire remains at 4.2 acres, with heavy fuels continuing to burn in the interior. Crews resumed operations at 8:00 AM Friday morning and are continuing suppression efforts by breaking apart and extinguishing heavy interior fuels that continue to hold heat.

Today’s objective is to further secure the fire perimeter by working approximately 66 feet into the interior to identify and extinguish remaining heat. Firefighters will continue mop-up operations throughout the day to strengthen containment and reduce the potential for any flare-ups.
