Firefighters work to secure Bulchitna Fire east of Skwentna

The DFFP Mat-Su Alpha Squad spent the night on the Bulchitna Fire (#205) 8.5-miles east of Skwentna after being shuttled to the 1.5-acre fire Wednesday evening. Forward progress of the fire was stopped by effective bucket drops. Thursday the crew will continue to construct sawline around the fire and extinguish any areas of heat they find. A helicopter will be available to support with additional bucket drops or to deliver supplies. The Mat-Su Bravo Squad remained in Palmer to be available to respond to any new incidents.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. This will be the last update for the fire unless significant activity occurs.

Lightning storms are forecast across Alaska this weekend. With the Summer Solstice upon us, the long days of sunshine can rapidly dry out areas that receive rain. Please be careful with campfires, barbeque grills and anything else that possibly could spark a fire.
