Final update for Starry Fire (#234)

This is the last planned update for the Starry Fire (#234). The fire remains at 547 acres and is 80% contained. Yesterday, the Denali Borough lifted all evacuation statuses for both the Starry Fire and the Seventeen Mile Fire (#258).

Over the entire fire, no heats remain within 300’ of the fire perimeter. Firefighters have found several areas of heat in green vegetation pockets, deep in the interior of the fire. Crews will continue to identify and mitigate those areas of heat. On the north side of the fire, crews will continue to work on suppression repair on areas impacted by firefighting efforts. Two crews are working through the interior of the fire area on a saw line, that work is anticipated to be complete today. Backhaul of unneeded firefighting equipment off of the fireline has begun.  Fire crews will remain in the Anderson area for the next several days to complete needed work.

Today, weather over the fire area will be partly to mostly clear with dry conditions through Wednesday. On Thursday, isolated showers in the morning will transition to scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Daily scattered showers are then forecast through the weekend. Temperatures will be in the 60s to low 70s with afternoon relative humidity levels dropping to around 35-40% through Thursday.

Anderson City Campground and the Riverside Park (including range) remain closed due to firefighting activities.
