Smoke from Tatlanika Fire visible from Fairbanks and Denali Boroughs

Fire officials are receiving multiple reports of smoke visible from Fairbanks and the Denali Borough. The smoke is coming from the existing Tatlanika Fire (#246), located approximately 25 miles east of Clear. This is not a new fire.

A reconnaissance flight observed increased fire activity, including individual and group torching in black spruce and tundra.

The Tatlanika Fire is within a Limited Management Option Area and remains in monitor status. In Limited Areas, fires are generally allowed to play their natural role when they do not threaten communities, homes, infrastructure, or other important resources. Fire managers continue to monitor these fires and may take action if a threat develops.
