Highlights: As of 7:00 am Thursday, the Alaska Complex Incident Management Team #1 has taken over command of the Mukluk Fire. On Wednesday, two water-scooping aircraft arrived from Canada, along with the Midnight Sun Hotshot Crew and Tanana Chiefs Type 2IA Crew, returning from assignments in the Lower 48. Their arrival adds to the multiple air tankers, helicopters, dozers, engines, and crews already supporting fire suppression efforts. Please stay out of GO! evacuation areas to give firefighters the space they need to work and to avoid the numerous hazards that remain in the area.

Operations: Within the community of Tok, firefighters continue to strengthen containment lines, protect structures, and patrol for flare-ups. Six dozers and smokejumpers are building a fireline through thick spruce, working north along the western edge of the fire to establish a strong containment line. As more crews arrive, they will be assigned to the northeast side of the fire to construct fireline and strengthen control efforts in that area. As additional resources arrive, crews will patrol the Tanana River for spot fires and assess cabins and Native allotments in the area. Protecting residents, firefighters, and property remains the priority.

Weather & Fire Behavior: The forecast calls for increased cloud cover over the fire area, which will help suppress inversion formation and moderate temperatures. Thursday and Friday will see cooler temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s, with minimum relative humidities improving to 35-50%. Isolated showers are possible Thursday but are not expected to produce wetting rain. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms remain possible over the terrain north of the fire each afternoon through Saturday, with the potential for gusty outflow winds should a storm develop nearby.
