Twelve Alaska smokejumpers are working on one of two small fires reported in the Yukon Training Area Monday afternoon.
The Horner Fire (#076) is the smaller of the two, estimated at about 0.25 acres, but fire managers determined it has potential for growth with the warmer, windier weather forecast for tomorrow. It is burning in grass and dead-and-down birch left from the 2013 Stuart Creek Fire. The fire is located about 1.5 miles northeast of another new start — the Moose Creek Fire (#075) — which was estimated at 3 acres.

These two fires are approximately 9 miles northeast of Eielson Air Force Base and just south of two fires reported in the area on Thursday. The Lynx 1 and Lynx 2 Fires were closely monitored in the days that followed.
The Lynx 2 Fire (#056) was estimated at 7 acres and was not exhibiting any activity when flown on Monday. The Lynx 1 Fire (#055) was estimated at 4 acres, with a small amount of smoke observed from the interior today.
All fires are believed to have been ignited during military training in the area.
