The Sawmill Creek Fire (079) is now 100% contained. The White Mountain T2IA Crew, Tanana Chiefs T2 Crew, and various engine resources continued active suppression and mop-up operations on Friday.
Crews remained engaged across the fire area, working through the burned area to locate and extinguish any remaining areas of heat. Firefighters also continued stacking burned trees and woody debris into piles and burning hazardous trees that may be weakened by fire and at risk of falling due to burned roots.
Engines focused on completing work along a strip of debris piles near the front of the fire area and continued gridding operations to ensure no hidden heat remains.

The Sawmill Creek Fire is managed under a 100% Full Suppression strategy, meaning crews will not leave the incident until all remaining heat and visible smoke across the burned area are completely extinguished.
This will be the final update on the Sawmill Creek Fire unless significant changes occur.
