DFFP Responding to Maud Fire (#097) at shooting range outside of Palmer

3:30 PM: The Maud Fire is now contained. The helicopter has been released after bucket drops were successful in helping knock down the fire edge. Firefighters have wrapped the fire perimeter in hoselay and are currently cutting saw line. The Mat-Su Type 2 Fire Crew is currently on scene to assist with suppression and will remain on scene for the next few hours to ensure the fire is completely out.

The shooting range will be closed until this work is completed.

This will be the last update unless there are significant changes.

2:15 PM: A report was received at 1:30 PM on Monday of a fire at the Kenny and Patti Shooting Range on Maud Rd in Palmer. Division of Forestry & Fire Protection has engines and a helicopter on scene at the Maud Fire (#097). department also responding.

It is currently less than one acre and burning in grass and hardwoods.

Updates will be provided as more details become available.

Please avoid the area to give firefighters and helicopters space to work.
