Drivers traveling on the Taylor Highway (Alaska Highway 5) near milepost 110 should be aware of possible smoke impacts from the Polly Fire (228) that could reduce visibility. They should also watch for and yield to firefighting traffic.
On Wednesday night, the fire was still west of Polly Creek, which is only 1/3 mile west of the highway. For your safety and the safety of firefighters please do not stop along the highway in this area.
The Polly Fire was detected on June 20, 2026, following a significant lightning event. It is about 21 miles north of Chicken, Alaska, and about 35 miles south of Eagle, Alaska. The fire is burning in a Limited Management Option Area, where fire is generally allowed to play its natural ecological role unless it threatens identified sites of value.
The U.S. Wildland Fire Service Alaska Range Suppression Module is assigned to the fire to protect life and property, including a bridge and cabins in the area.
