New wildfire in Koyukuk National Wildlife Refuge 50% contained

Eight smokejumpers are working to contain a new wildfire in the Koyukuk National Wildlife Refuge. The Cone Fire (#353) was detected Saturday using satellite imagery.

The fire is 21.5 acres and 50% contained tonight. It is 1.5 miles south of Billy Hawk Creek and 33 miles northwest of Huslia and is not threatening structures or Native allotments.

Smokejumpers will continue to work tomorrow toward full containment.
