Smokejumpers, aircraft fully contain new wildfire near Livengood

Eight smokejumpers, three single-engine water-scooping planes, and an air attack plane responded Saturday to the Ready Bullion Fire (#356) near the airport in Livengood and contained it.

The fire was burning just east of the Elliott Highway near milepost 74 within about 1 mile of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. It was estimated at a half-acre, and was smoldering and creeping in spruce, hardwoods, and brush before it was contained.

Smokejumpers will conduct one more search for remaining hotspots tomorrow before declaring the fire out.

This is the final update, barring unforeseen changes in fire activity.
