• Munson Creek Fire intensifies, evacuation order issued for Chena Hot Springs and residences from Mile 48 to 56 on Hot Springs Road

  Due to an increase in fire behavior on the Munson Creek Fire this afternoon, a “Go” evacuation order has been issued for Chena Hot Springs Resort and residences along Chena Hot Springs Road from Mile 48 to Mile 56. The Fairbanks North Star Borough issued a Level 3 “Go” evacuation order at 4:15 p.m. advising local residents and guests at the resort to leave the area immediately.

• Wind change makes for smoky conditions on Munson Creek Fire and in Fairbanks

  The thick smoke is the result of a wind change more than increased fire activity. The 19,700-acre fire continues to spread slowly in all directions and will continue to do so today with temperatures forecast to be in the high 70s with low relative humidity and east winds up to 13 mph.

• Smokejumpers protect cabins in Yukon-Charley Rivers

  Five BLM Alaska Fire Service firefighters are taking protective measures to make sure two cabins in the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve are safe from an encroaching wildfire.

• Aggressive ground, air attack quells new fire southwest of Chalkyitsik

  Using an aggressive ground and air attack, firefighters were able to quickly quell a small fire burning about 13 miles southwest of Chalkyitsik and about 32 miles east of Fort Yukon Sunday. The Grass River Fire was kept to 1.8 acres.
