Evacuation levels for neighborhoods near the 7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222): Residents north of Butch Kuth Ave and on Jack Wade Road are at READY (Level 1). Residents on Osprey, Moose Nugget, and Goshawk Roads are at SET (Level 2).

Yesterday’s Activities: Crews focused on small slop-overs and spot fires that started on July 5th from the outflow of a small thunderstorm.  A dozer line was successfully established around those areas. That, in addition to interior burning, produced smoke visible from Tok and the surrounding area. Burnout operation down the 7 mile lookout access route began yesterday to tie in unburned areas. On the east, the fire was active with fire backing downslope with occasional upslope runs producing additional smoke visible on the north side of the fire.

Today’s Activities: Dozers and the tundra buggy from Tok River Fire are now positioned on the fire’s west side. The main priority for crews today is to secure and reinforce the dozer line, extinguish hotspots outside the line, and complete effective mop-up to ensure containment before moving back into the main perimeter to address interior areas. Fire officials are also considering continuing burnout operations today and tomorrow, as weather conditions are favorable for tying into the 7 mile lookout route.  Increased smoke from other wildfires in the surrounding area will be visible due to increased fire activity and the changing weather pattern.

Tok River Fire (#289)

Size: 334 acres  Location: 10 miles south of Tok, AK.

Start Date: June 19, 2025 Cause: Lightning Containment: 82%

Total Personnel: 44

Activities – Operations are going according to plan with consistent, steady progress increasing containment on the fire to 82%. Equipment that is no longer needed has been moved to the 7 Mile Lookout Fire. Today, crews have begun the stages of mop-up, hot-spotting, and gridding operations in the boggy terrain on both sides of the river. Overall, the Tok River Fire remains on a positive trajectory, with increased containment anticipated in the coming days.

Weather – Chances of isolated thunderstorms will continue this afternoon into the evening, with numerous rain showers expected. Southwest winds will remain relatively light around 5 mph, though gusty and erratic winds are possible with thunderstorms. Minimum relative humidity is expected to range between 50% and 60%, while temperatures will range from 60°F to 50°F.

Aircraft and Drone Restrictions – A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is still in place over the fire and will continue to be until further notice. The public is asked not to fly any type of aircraft, including drones, near the fire area. Unauthorized drone (UAS) flights pose serious risks to the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations. Aerial firefighting is suspended when unauthorized UAS are in the area, allowing wildfires to growlarger.

Remember: If you fly, we can’t.
