State forestry, Mat-Su Borough offer free brush disposal sites to reduce human-caused fires
The drop-off sites were established in 2019 on a small scale. With funding assistance from the Division of Forestry and involvement of the Mat-Su Borough Department of Emergency Services and Department of Public Works this program will be available through 2022. Last year, more than 2,100 tons of spruce-beetle-infested brush was collected and disposed of at the designated drop-off sites.

Fairbanks Area Forestry to burn hundreds of slash piles near Cripple Creek, Goldstream AK subdivisions
Weather permitting, the DOF’s Fairbanks Area Forestry office will start burning on October 4 and be done by October 29, said fire management officer Gordon Amundson. There are approximately 2,500 to 3,000 slash piles, each about 10 feet around and four feet tall. Local residents may see smoke from the burning.
